Frequently Asked Questions
Booking a consultation is the best way to determine if my services are right for you, but I personally know the importance of coming into a consultation with as much information as possible. Many of these questions have been generated with the support and encouragement of current and former clients.
Thank you to each of you who help me help others.
If you are a current or former client and believe I should add something to this page or any part of my website, feel free to connect with me and I am happy to help prospective clients know more about what working with me is like.

As a School Social Worker, I have worked with anyone interested in talking through something on their mind for a decade.
In my private practice, I desire to work with anyone who desires to work with me and we both determine we’re a good match.
I have the skills and experience to support people through a variety of life transitions, complicated situations, and experiences.
I have extensive experience supporting educators and other essential workers experiencing high-stress work environments, burnout, and other workers experiencing systemic oppression through unhealthy labor practices and wages.
As you have read, I have also worked with teens and families for over 10 years. I love working with adolescents, young adults, and families.
I have worked with teens since before Snapchat and came of age when social media was just beginning, so I incorporate healthy internet use as a part of my practice and am very familiar working with families who are concerned about their teen’s internet use.

You are welcome to request a free 15 minute consultation if you think we’d be a good fit, have questions about my experience, practice modality, or would like to ask any questions about the therapy process, or ask for a referral if you are looking for a therapist in an area I am not experienced in but your don’t know how to find someone who would be a good fit for you. Click the “get in touch” button at the top and it will take you to a form for you to complete and I will get back to you to schedule time for us to connect.

Once we have established a therapeutic relationship (aka once you have decided you want to work with me and we begin sessions together) all communication will be through HIPPA compliant communication services through my EHR system which is SimplePractice.
We will set a regular appointment time for virtual video appointments and you will receive an email with a link as well as text and email reminders about upcoming appointments.
At the time of our appointment, you will click into my virtual therapy room and we will connect for the scheduled appointment.
I do not offer therapeutic support via text, email, or phone call between sessions and am not a crisis-therapist in my private practice, but you are always welcome to send me a message for us to discuss at our next appointment.
This is for both of our protection. Let me know if you have any questions about this.

My therapeutic model is most effective when clients are able to commit to 3-4 months of working together. Most clients begin with weekly therapy and move to biweekly after goals, routines, and treatment plans are established. There is no specific recipe for how many therapy sessions will address the presenting concerns you’d like to talk about.
Estimating a 3-4 month Therapeutic Relationship, you could estimate about 12-13 sessions to help you get back on track or develop a personal strategy and self care toolbox:
Month 1: 4 sessions
Month 2: 3 sessions
Month 3: 3 sessions
Month 4: 2 sessions
I do NOT terminate relationships based on having reached a specific number of sessions, so this plan is approximate and based on the typical amount of time it takes to develop a therapeutic relationship between client and provider, address the underlying causes and roots of something you’d like to discuss, craft and implement any new personal strategies or habit redirection strategies, and work toward a transition plan toward continued growth and self-reflection processes.
My services are NOT one-size-fits-all and we will work together to find what works well for you.

Typically, therapy sessions are weekly at first. Over time, this can be adjusted depending on a variety of factors. When you and I agree to work together, I reserve your chosen appointment time for you so that we can meet regularly.
-
As of September 2023, I offer therapy Monday - Thursday between 12pm - 9pm with additional appointment times available on a case by case basis in assessment with my caseload, etc.

I stand firmly in the belief that ALL humans deserve full access to all human rights. I stand firmly against any laws or practices that require mental health providers or educators to violate the privacy rights of minors with regards to gender, sexuality, reproductive care, or other rights to autonomy, privacy, and safety.
If you have specific questions about anything related to identity, my political or personal opinions on matters related to the experiences you’re seeking support in, or want to know more about if I have ever worked with someone who shares an experience you’re going through, feel free to get in contact.
This is YOUR therapy and I want you to feel safe, seen, and supported.
If I do not have experience or knowledge and/or you do not feel we are a good fit, I am happy to try and find you a referral to someone who is.

Therapy is often done in a 1-1 basis with exceptions made at all times for emotional support animals and fidget tools.
Outside of pets and fidget tools, therapy is for you and me only unless otherwise previously arranged.
If you would like to invite someone else to the session , this can be arranged and discussed in the previous session.
This request to prearrange additional participants in an online therapy session is in both the client and therapist’s best interest for the therapeutic process.
Adding someone to else to a Therapy Appointment should be prearranged or a session may need to be rescheduled.
There will be no exceptions to this.

I am not the perfect match in therapist for everyone and everyone’s life story includes different chapters. Depending on the chapter you’re working through, it may be better for me to refer you to someone who has different skills or expertise or training than I do.
Additionally, perfect is an illusion AND it is okay to not want to work with the first therapist who had an opening.
I am happy to help you find someone else if I am not the right fit. I want you to have therapy that works best for you, even if it’s not me. You deserve it. 💙

I am a mandatory reporter, so I am obligated to report child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline.
In the State of Oregon, there are laws around disclosure of suicidality to a trusted adult and I have extensive experience in navigating supporting clients who experience ideation, have attempted, or are close to someone who has/does.
I encourage you to ask specific questions about this if you have them.
In the State of Oregon, clients 14 and older may seek mental healthcare without parental consent and clients 15 and older may seek medical care without parental consent.
Clients can access birth control and reproductive care at any age without parental consent.
Minors' consent laws become extremely important for these situations. See my “About my Practice” page for more details.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who practices under the NASW Code of Ethics. You can find out more here https://www.socialworkers.org/About/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics/Code-of-Ethics-English
The mission of the social work profession is rooted in a set of core values. These core values, embraced by social workers throughout the profession’s history, are the foundation of social work’s unique purpose and perspective:
service
social justice
dignity and worth of the person
importance of human relationships
integrity
competence.
This constellation of core values reflects what is unique to the social work profession. Core values, and the principles that flow from them, must be balanced within the context and complexity of the human experience.

I have ten years of experience and two professional licenses and set my rates to allow me to continue offering both fee-based and free services to communities and populations I desire to serve.
I work full-time in the public school system and am offer specialized and limited services after-school at a premium cost.
If you are seeking therapy at a lower rate than my standard rate, I am listed with Open Path Collective where I see clients for $60-80/session and offer sliding-scale spots to clients on a limited basis directly as well.
I do not work with health insurance companies at this time because I do not want our work to be limited or dictated by the requirements of those who are not a part of the therapeutic process.
I can provide a Superbill to you to see if your insurance company can reimburse you for part of the cost of services.
Please see my Fees Page for more details.

Yes. Charlie Louvin is my grandfather. Charlie Louvin was an American country music singer and songwriter. He is best known as one of the Louvin Brothers, and was a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1955. He’s someone I look up to greatly and admire for his passion throughout his career.
My practice name was inspired by him. Feel free to ask me about this.

I am considered an "out-of-network" provider for most PPO plans, which means that our sessions will be my standard rate. Payment is due at the time of session.
Many insurance companies provide out-of-network reimbursement once you've met your deductible.
I provide a monthly superbill - this is an itemized receipt of your mental health services that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
I strongly recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to learn what options are available to you.
Here is a list of questions to ask your insurance provider to help you gain a better understanding of what it is like to work with an out-of-network provider:
1. What are my mental health benefits?
2. Do I need an approval from my primary care physician?
3. What is my deductible and how much of it has been met?
4. What is the reimbursement rate to work with an out-of-network provider?
5. How do I submit my superbill for reimbursement?
Providing affordable and accessible therapy is important to me. I reserve several sliding scale spots in my schedule for those with financial constraints.
Feel free to ask me if these spots are available.
In addition, I work with Open Path Collective and reserve a few low-cost spots. You are welcome to search for my profile on there and see if I am accepting new clients. If I'm unable to offer you a sliding scale fee, I will be more than happy to help you find affordable clinicians in the area.
